The Casa Batlló in Barcelona

A modernist renovation by Gaudí

The Casa Batlló is a building located at Paseo de Gracia, number 43 in Barcelona. The renovated building was the work of Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí, who represented Catalan modernism. The remodeling of the building corresponds to Gaudí’s naturalist era. Thus, the angled shape of the front is inspired by nature. The building was constructed in 1875 by the architect Emilio Sala Cortés. In 1903, the Batlló family bought it and lived on the main floor of the house until their marriage fell apart. The rest of the rooms were rented to different tenants. The Batlló family commissioned Gaudí for the renovation, when he was already a renowned architecture and representative of modernism. In 1954, the couple’s daughters sold the Casa Batlló to Seguros Iberia, who used it as their offices. In 1993, the Bernat family bought the building, restored it and opened it to the public, organizing numerous guided visits of this emblematic place. In 2005, the Casa Batlló was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This building is located on the renowned Manzana de la Discordia. It turns out that on this same block, there are other modernist buildings by other well-known architects. Visiting the Casa Batlló in Barcelona is an absolute delight. If you’re thinking of visiting the Paseo de Gracia to check out this modernist landmark, you can book your parking with Parclick and explore Barcelona with peace of mind.
