The Jardin des Plantes
The Jardin des Plantes is, as the name suggests, a garden. But it’s not just any garden, it’s a botanical garden *Gasps*. In 1635 Louis XIII was advised by his physician, Guy de la Brosse, to set up a garden, to improve his health. The garden was to be expanded with exotic plants from France’s adventures across the world. Later, in 1640, the garden became accessible to the public. In 1739, a maze was even added to the garden and today the garden is about 28 hectares and houses over 10,000 different species of plants.
The Grande Galerie de l'Evolution is also on site. Here you can find everything that has to do with the evolution. Think of skeletons of ancient animals - they even have a dodo! The building is four-storeys each with its own theme. And it’s very well themed at that, think of hearing the wind blowing through the African grasses in the Savannah, or experiencing the might of a thunderstorm without getting wet - it’s definitely great to see!
The Jardin des Plantes is worth a visit if you’re into your nature. So you will be amazed at all the plants, and you really can have a break from the hustle and bustle of the French capital here. It's the perfect place to unwind after walking down the Champs-Elysées or shopping at the Galeries Lafayette!
