Located in the 10th arrondissement, Gare du Nord is the  busiest station in Europe  and the second most busiest in the world with 190 million travellers passing through it in 2008. This immense structure, which opened in 1846, has also been classed as a historic monument since 1975. Moreover, it is quite popular for filming; well-known films which have been shot there include, Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain and La Mémoire dans la Peau. The station is at the centre of a   multimodal platform mainly connected to buses, RER (lines B, D, E), the underground (lines 2, 4, 5), taxis and also self-service bicycles. More notably, the underground directly leads to Pigalle, Île de la Cité as well as  Gare Montparnasse. Like every station in Paris, it serves a particular zone in France: the north, hence its name. It connects the capital to  Calais, Lille and Dunkerque. Its trains also travel to other countries which include: London, Brussels, Amsterdam and Cologne.
