Where to park in Verona outside ZTL
Verona's historic centre is almost entirely a ZTL — a Limited Traffic Zone where private vehicles are not permitted without authorisation. Automatic cameras at the zone entrances scan licence plates: driving through without a valid pass results in a fine sent to your home address, often weeks later. The simplest solution is to park outside the ZTL and explore the centre on foot or by bus. With Parclick, book a guaranteed spot in a monitored car park before you arrive.
What is Verona's ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone)?
The ZTL covers the historic centre within the city walls, including Piazza Brà, Via Mazzini and the surrounding streets. There are several overlapping ZTL zones in Verona, each with its own active hours. Generally the zone is enforced on weekdays and Saturdays during the day. On Sundays and public holidays most zones are not active.
Camera enforcement is automatic — there are no barriers or visible checkpoints. A vehicle entering without authorisation receives a fine regardless of which country it is registered in. Check the current active hours on the Verona Municipality website before driving into the centre, as times may vary for special events or seasonal changes.
Booking a car park outside the ZTL via Parclick is the easiest way to avoid this problem entirely.
Where to park in Verona outside the ZTL
The most conveniently located car parks sit on the edge of the ZTL boundary, within walking distance of the Arena, Piazza Brà, the Casa di Giulietta and the main sights. Available on Parclick:
- SABA Verona Arena — closest car park to the Arena di Verona and Piazza Brà, just outside the ZTL
- SABA Verona Isolo — east side of the centre, near the Roman Theatre and the Adige river
- SABA Arsenale — north of the historic centre, close to Castel San Pietro
- Paradiso Verona — covered garage a short walk from Verona Porta Nuova station
- SABA Ospedale Borgo Trento Low Cost — budget option to the north-west of the centre
- GARAGE VERONA – Shuttle Centro — car park with shuttle service to the city centre
Is there free parking in Verona?
Not in or immediately around the historic centre. Most on-street spaces near the ZTL are paid or reserved for residents, and free spots are almost impossible to find at any time of day. Some exceptions:
- Sundays and public holidays: blue zone on-street parking outside the centre is generally free.
- Evenings: in many peripheral neighbourhoods, street parking is free after 20:00.
- Free car parks further out: Parcheggio Porta Palio and Piazzale Guardini offer free parking, but require a walk or bus ride to reach the historic centre.
For a guaranteed spot close to the centre, booking in advance through Parclick is the most reliable option.
Parking line colours in Verona — what they mean
Coloured kerb markings indicate the rules for each on-street parking space:
- Blue lines: paid parking. The Parclick app lets you pay the meter directly from your phone — no need to find a machine or return to your car to extend the time. Hours and rates vary by area.
- Yellow lines: reserved for residents. Non-residents must not park here.
- White lines: free parking with no time limit. Extremely rare in the centre.
Verona also has spaces marked with yellow-and-blue combined markings: paid for everyone during the day, reserved for residents at night. Always check the vertical signage at the parking space for the exact rules.
Parking near the Arena di Verona
The Arena di Verona is located on Piazza Brà, inside the ZTL. During the summer opera festival and concerts, nearby car parks fill up quickly — sometimes hours before the performance. The SABA Verona Arena is the most practical option, just minutes on foot from the amphitheatre and just outside the ZTL. Book several days ahead for evening performances.

Getting from your car park to the city centre
Verona's historic centre is compact — from most car parks outside the ZTL, the Arena, the Casa di Giulietta and Piazza delle Erbe are within 5 to 15 minutes on foot. For longer distances, ATV city buses cover the entire centre. From Porta Nuova station, the centre is reachable by bus in a few minutes or on foot in about 15 minutes.
