Where to park in San Mamés Stadium

If you say football in Bilbao, people will quickly answer you with the word “Athletic” or with San Mamés, the stadium where this Basque team plays. This structure was constructed in 2013, but it has taken the name of the old stadium of the red and white to follow with the tradition of naming this soccer temple The Cathedral.

The capacity for 53,000 people makes game days a grand reunion of a multitude of people so if your plan doesn´t include going to see the Athletic, run away while you can. On the contrary, if you are a fan of the sport and you want to see this team whose philosophy runs across borders (they only play with players raised in the youth academy teams in the Basque Country), your main problem will be parking to enter the stadium.

To avoid problems on game day, the best thing to do is reserve a parking space beforehand so you are not surprised with how rapidly these spots fill up. You can make a reservation online with Parclick in just two minutes. Also, if you don´t want to get caught in the traffic near San Mamés, you can choose a different car park in Bilbao.

More than football

If you don´t enjoy football, you can always admire the impressive structure of San Mamés and then continue enjoying a city as marvelous as Bilbao, which only lacks a great climate. The Bilbao River runs beside the stadium and you can take a stroll around and get to know this vast city. It is also amazing to look at the shipyards, which will surprise you.

Another building to see in this area is the Euskalduna Jaureguia Palace – hard to pronounce, but stunning. Also located beside this structure is the Doña Casilda de Iturrizar Park, where you can get in touch with nature and, without a doubt, you will have the best views to break your Facebook Likes record.

On the other hand, if your legs are strong, the Guggenheim Museum is a 20-minute walk away. If your plan is to mix football and art, you only have to follow the river (towards the side flowing away from the sea).

Take advantage of and enjoy Bilbao without worrying about your car by parking near the San Mamés Stadium before you arrive with Parclick and know that your vehicle will be well-looked after.
