The Thyssen Museum, from gothic to pop art

A magnificent collection of international works of art

The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum of Madrid opened in 1992 in the Villahermosa Palace, a historic building that is located nearby the two other most important museums in Madrid, the Prado Museum and the Queen Sofía Museum. These three museums form Madrid´s Triangle of Art. The Thyssen has a private collection that belongs to the Thyssen-Bornemisza family, collected throughout the better part of seven decades. There are just as many national artists as foreigners, and among the most celebrated are Jan van Eyck, Durero, Tiziano, El Greco, Picasso, Roy Lichtenstein, Lucian Freud, Van Gogh, Cézanne and more. The museum also houses interesting temporary exhibitions. This art gallery has everything from gothic works made in the 14th century to pop art. The actual heir, Carmen Cervera, widow of the Baron Thyssen, added to the collection with 240 new pieces, in addition to placing other art works in the new museum, Carmen Thyssen Málaga, in the Andalusian city. If you wish to enjoy your visit to the spectacular museum in Madrid and you are plan to drive, we recommend that you make a parking reservation online with Parclick.
