The 13th arrondissement is one of the 20 arrondissements of Paris. The Place d'Italie is at the heart of the 13th arrondissement. The boundaries of the area are found at Rue de la Santé to the west, Boulevard Périphérique to the south, the River Seine to the west and Boulevard de Port-Royal, Boulevard Saint-Marcel and Boulevard de l'Hôpital to the north. The area is home to one of the biggest railway stations in central Paris: the Austerlitz Train Station. The Salpêtrière Hospital, located next to the station, is also one of the most busy in the capital. Along the bank of the Seine you can also find the François-Mitterrand Library part of the National French Library (BnF) and the University Paris-Diderot.

 

In the heart of the 13th arrondissement, Place d'Italie is the focal point of several major streets in the area including the Avenue de Choisy, the Avenue des Gobelins, the Boulevard de l'Hôpital, the Avenue d'Italie, the Boulevard Vincent-Auriol and the Boulevard Auguste-Blanqui. Next to the Place d'Italie, you can also go shopping in the Italie Deux Shopping Centre, or visit the Tribunal d'Instance de Paris.

 

In this area of Paris, you can visit the Gobelins Manufactory, classified as a historical monument and famous for its tapestries. You could also discover the Gentilly Cemetery, the Choisy Park or the René-Le Gall Square.
