Car parks in the 12th to 20th arrondissements are generally cheaper than those in the 1st to 11th. For longer stays, parking slightly outside the centre and taking the metro is the simplest way to cut costs.
Car park or street parking: which is cheaper?
For an hour or two in the outer arrondissements, street parking can be competitive. From around 3 to 4 hours, a booked car park is clearly cheaper, and it is the only option if you need to stay more than 6 hours or drive a heavy vehicle.

Does Paris have parking meters? How to pay for street parking
Yes. Paris has parking meters (horodateurs) on every street where parking is charged. You can pay in three ways:
At the parking meter: by chip bank card or prepaid card. Newer meters also accept contactless payment. Cash is not among the payment methods listed by the City of Paris.
With a mobile app: the City of Paris works with several official parking apps that let you pay, extend or shorten your session remotely and get an alert before it ends.
By phone: each official app also offers payment through an automated phone line.
Whichever method you use, enter your number plate exactly as it appears on your vehicle registration document. Checks are made against the payment database, and a typing mistake can lead to a fine. Payment is calculated in 15-minute steps.
Parclick does not sell street parking in Paris. If you would rather not deal with meters, time limits or fines, book a space in a car park instead.
Street parking rules in Paris
Charging hours: Monday to Saturday, 9am to 8pm, including in August.
Free: every evening from 8pm to 9am, all day on Sundays and on public holidays.
Time limit: visitors can park for a maximum of 6 consecutive hours in the same space.
Two price zones: zone 1 covers the 1st to 11th arrondissements and zone 2 the 12th to 20th.
Heavy vehicles: petrol and hybrid cars over 1.6 tonnes and electric cars over 2 tonnes pay a higher rate, three times the standard price.
Fines: if you don't pay, you are charged the equivalent of 6 hours of parking: €75 in zone 1 and €50 in zone 2 for a standard car.
Is there free parking in Paris?
Street parking is free in every arrondissement in the evening after 8pm, on Sundays and on public holidays. August is no longer free: normal charges apply. Spaces that are free at all times are very rare and quickly taken. The car parks in the Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes are no longer free either.
If you need to park during charging hours, or for more than 6 hours, a booked car park is the simplest option.
Long-term parking in Paris
For a weekend or a longer stay, a car park is the practical choice: street parking is limited to 6 hours in the same space. Typical prices in central Paris:
2 days: €56.20.
3 days: €73.70.
One week: €94.60.
More than a week: €153.50.
If you need a space every day or for several months, a monthly subscription gives you a guaranteed space in the car park of your choice. There are 24-hour subscriptions, working-hours subscriptions for daytime parking and night subscriptions for evening and overnight parking.
Park and ride outside Paris
If you are driving in for the day, you can leave your car in a park and ride car park on the outskirts and continue into the centre by metro or RER. It is also a way to avoid driving in central Paris altogether.
Driving in Paris: low emission zone
Paris restricts the most polluting vehicles according to their Crit'Air sticker. Check the current rules before you travel on our Paris low emission zone page. Booking a car park does not exempt you from traffic restrictions.
